Summer vacation is officially on!
And I must announce the end of this newsletter.
I started this newsletter after an eventful first day of training. I honestly didn’t expect this job to be that interesting. But people are people and they gave me a lot of interesting stories to share. I considered continuing this as I do have a few more small stories, but ending with the school year feels right.
Although, let’s be honest, if I had a bazillion subscribers and this thing made money, I’d probably feel different. But I never bothered to turn on paid subscriptions. This was just a fun thing I enjoyed and wanted to share with people to give them a laugh. I wasn’t interested in making this a money maker. (A shocking concept in this day and age. You like doing something? Figure out a way to make money on it or its worthless.)
But I appreciate you coming along for the ride. If you only recently subscribed, here are the archives. Read at your leisure or when you need a laugh.
To wrap things up, here are a few last observations.
Why are so many people drinking their coffee out or normal coffee mugs and not travel mugs? Do they have lids? What if they flip their car? Not only will they have a wrecked vehicle, but they will also be covered in hot coffee!
You can tell who is going to be late for their funeral solely because they are still late when there is a 2 hour delay.
Adults still looked both ways before crossing after I stopped traffic.
I gave people a lot of weird nicknames. Happy Bear. Jesus Dad. Becky’s Mom (no idea if the child’s name was Becky.) Asian Dad #1. Asian Dad in a Van. White Top. Stickers. Camo Dad. Non-disabled Mom. (She always parked her big-ass truck in the handicapped spot.) Tesla Teacher.
I definitely over thought the job. For example: I worried people would think I wasn’t doing my job if they didn’t see my footprints in the snow.
The wind is the worst. No matter how sunny and warm, a cold wind would chill me to the bone.
People weren't shy about letting me know they appreciated me being there.
Will I do it next school year?
Yup. Despite freezing at times and spending most of the hour standing around, I enjoyed it. It was nice to see the sunrise and to get some fresh air almost daily. Plus, there are the perks of having holidays and weekends off. I only had one close call where I had to jump back from a car I thought had seen me but hadn’t. People appreciated me being there and ensuring their kids’ safety (even if they couldn’t be bothered to use the cross walk and let me do my job for them.)
I hope you enjoyed reading the stories. Thank you for joining me. If you want to stay in touch and enjoy paranormal stories, join me at my other newsletter Twisting the Myths.
I love the idea of giving everyone nicknames. That's great fun. I often do that, too... 😎
